The Barbados Equestrian Experience (BEE) is a purpose-driven business deeply connected to the Barbadian equestrian community. At its heart is Dr. Laura Smith, PhD, a lifelong Barbadian equestrian, accomplished international competitor and passionate advocate for horses and animal welfare.
Laura has represented Barbados at regional and international competitions, earning numerous medals, including team bronze in Three-Day Eventing at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Colombia.
Her passion for horses began at a young age, competing in local gymkhanas and scurries before progressing to the racetrack, where she worked as an exercise jockey during her teenage years. Her equestrian journey has since taken her across multiple disciplines and international competition, giving her a deep understanding of Barbados' sporting and equestrian community.
Today, Laura is dedicated to promoting and connecting the many facets of equestrian sport in Barbados, from racing and polo to dressage, show jumping and eventing. Through BEE, she creates opportunities for guests to experience this community authentically, working alongside trusted riders, trainers, clubs and stables across the island.
Her commitment extends beyond sport. Laura is a passionate advocate for responsible horsemanship, animal welfare and the future of equestrianism in Barbados, with BEE committed to supporting horse and animal welfare initiatives across the island.
BEE is about more than experiencing Barbados on horseback - it is about opening the door of opportunity to the people, horses, sport and culture that make the island's equestrian community unique.
